Ruth, Nancy, 1942- : Nancy Ruth (Jackman) was born in Toronto on 6 January 1942 and educated at the London School of Economics, York University, University of Toronto. She was the co-founder of the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) from 1984-6 and manager of The Charter of Rights Coalition 1982-1990, leader of Ad Hoc Committee, Women on the Constitution (Ontario) from 1987; Charter Watch Justice Committee, National Action Committee on the Status of Women, 1981-82; Canadian Women on the Constitution from 1981, spokesperson and critic of the Meech Lake Accord, 1992 Charlottetown Accord and Referendum. She was appointed to the Order of Canada in 1994 and to the Senate in 2005. She is known nationally as a feminist and activist who has organized and participated in conferences on women's legal, political and constitutional issues.
