Volumes 2 to 23 consists of numbered files containing correspondence, telegrams, memoranda, data sheets, and reports concerning a variety of subjects and covering the period 1940-1966. Volumes 24-31 contain files detailing the organization, application, function, and procedures of the Unemployment Insurance Commission during the years 1935 to 1965. There are files on the following subjects: amending the B.N.A. Act to include unemployment insurance; House of Commons debates on unemployment insurance; analysis of the Act (a sectional breakdown); general regulations and amendments to the Act; union reaction to the Act; Dominion-Provincial agreements; and so on.
File No. 1-2-5, in thirteen volumes, concerns amendments to the Unemployment Insurance Act, and forms part of the file series which is located in volumes 24 to 31 inclusive. The file covers the years 1940-1959.
Volume 1 contains files relating to Great Lakes Seamen's Security Regulations (see File no. 3-2-25). Also included are two folders of Unemployment Insurance Commission forms used in connection with the Great Lakes Seamen's Security Regulations.
Volumes 286-313 contain subject files from the Insurance Program's 4000 central registry file series. The files relate to issues such as: insurance agreements between Canada and the U.S., complaints and inquiries, studies and surveys, claims, premiums and decisions and appeals. The files themselves contain documentation such as reports, agreements, newspaper clippings, correspondence and memoranda.
Volumes 318-375 and 377-450 consist of a series of coverage files from the commission's block 5 files (5-1 - 5-36).
