Series consists of records documenting the meetings of the National Capital Commission, Board of Commissioners and its predecessors. Records include meeting minutes, agendas, and summaries as well as minutes and reports of executive level committees, sub-committees, special committees, and advisory committees.

All aspects of the Commission's functions and responsibilities are covered, including: land acquisition; bridges and roads, sidewalks and parkway improvements; floral and arboreal beautification; maintenance of the Government grounds; Rideau Hall; the Greenbelt; the Queensway; rail line displacement; the Gatineau Park; Ottawa River pollution; National Capital Region master plans; relations with local municipalities; sporting facilities; financial projections and accounts; and reporting from various subcommittees and Advisory Boards. There are often correspondence, newspaper clippings, By-Laws and budgets into the Minute Books. During the later years of the Federal District Commission and for the National Capital Commission, these volumes also contain reports and minutes of the following Committees and Sub-committees: Executive Committee; Land Committee; National Capital Planning Committee; Advisory Committee on Design; Information and Public Relations Advisory Committee; Historical Advisory Committee; Architectural Committee; Park Advisory Committee; Railway Committee; Municipal Grants Committee; Gatineau Park Advisory Committee and other special committees.

Volumes 1-19 consist of bound volumes containing the minutes of the National Capital Commission (1959-1967), and its two predecessors: The Federal District Commission (1927-1959), and the Ottawa Improvement Commission (1899-1927). The first book of the Ottawa Improvement Commission Minutes (Vol. 1) contains a notepad of minute summaries and drafts, 1889-1911. The first four minute books (Vols. 1-4) contain individual subject indices. Index cards on microfilm reel M-3737 serve as a finding aid for the NCC Minutes, 1959-1964. Volumes 321-336 contain meeting minutes and agendas of the National Capital Commission and the Federal District Commission, including attached reports from 1946 to 1971; Volume 337 contain architectural drawings of landscape designs for the Dow's Lake area attached to the meeting records.

Microfilm reels T-27163 -- T-27168 consist of records of the Executive Committee from 1981-1985 and include financial encumbrances, general ledgers, journal entries, vouchers, personnel systems, and minutes. Microfilm reels T-27169 -- T-27171 consist of records of Executive correspondence and documents of the Chairman's Office, February 1978 - July 1985. Microfilm reel T-27172 consists of Commission minutes for 1984-1985. Microfilm reel T-27173 consists of Executive minutes for 1985.

Canada. National Capital Commission. Executive Committee : The Executive Committee is comprised of the NCC Chairperson, Executive Vice-President (General Manager) and the five branch Vice-Presidents who convene on a regular basis to discuss significant issues related to corporate planning, daily operations and the administration concerns of the NCC. This is the entity which bridges the committees, and commission's work with the operational areas of the institution. All branch level documentation throughout the entire NCC are filtered through the Executive Committee in the form of submissions forwarded for approval.
