Canada. Canadian Armed Forces. Maritime Air Group : Maritime Air Group (MAG) is composed of Air Command personnel and aircraft but is commanded and controlled by Maritime Command (MARCOM) when employed by it. The Commander MAG has responsibility for the air elements providing support to MARCOM. The operational responsibilities include maintaining combat ready air forces, fleet support, maritime search and rescue operations, surveillance of Canadian sovereignty, drug interdictions, violations of Canadian pollution laws or regulations.

Maritime Air Group, Air Defence Group, Air Transport Group, and 10 Tactical Air Group, are the four operational groups under the jurisdiction of Air Command. Air Command was founded on September 2, 1975 by the amalgamation of Air Defence Command and Air Transport Command.

On 2 September 1975 CFB Greenwood and CFB Summerside were allocated to Maritime Air Group as part of Air Command. With Canadian Forces Organizational Order 2.14.3, dated 9 September 1977, 407 Squadron was incorporated into Air Command and allocated to Maritime Air Group. CFB Comox was relocated from Air Defence Group to Maritime Air Group on 15 July 1982. On 15 May 1993 the Ministerial Organizational Order 92124 mandated Maritime Forces Pacific (MARPAC) to exercise operational control, through the Commander Maritime Air Group, over all air resources assigned operational tasks in support of MARPAC; over the helicopter detachments of Maritime Air Group assigned and embarked in MARPAC ships; and over 422 Transport and Rescue Squadron for search and rescue tasking only.

In l997, Air Command's four operational groups: Fighter Group; Air Transport Group; Maritime Air Group and 10 Tactical Air Group were combined into one formation called 1 Canadian Air Division (1 Cdn Air Div).

With the reorganization of Air Command in 1997, Maritime Air Group ceased to exist. As with all Air Command squadrons, maritime squadrons are now under the command of No. 1 Air Division in Winnipeg. Two subordinate Maritime Air Component Commanders (Atlantic) and (Pacific) coordinate all maritime air operations with the respective naval commands in Halifax and Esquimalt.
