Sub-series consists of miscellaneous papers (correspondence, General Orders, etc.) concerning appointments within the Indian Department as well as correspondence, reports and extracts of reports relating to the management of Indian Affairs and the organization of the Indian Department. Included in this sub-series are records relating to the transfer of Indian Affairs from military to civilian control, 1828-1830; the 1837 Report of the Committee of the Executive Council of Lower Canada regarding the state of the Indian Department; and documents relating to the 1840 Report of Committee #4 investigating Indian Affairs in Upper Canada, to the 1844 Report of commissioners Rawson, Davidson, and Hepburn, and to the 1856-1858 Pennefather / Talfourd / Worthington Special Commission (Vols. 116-117). Also included are correspondence and evidence of both the Commission of Inquiry into Public Departments, Upper Canada, 1839 (Vols. 114-115) and the Commission of Inquiry into the Indian Department, 1842 (Vols. 720-721). The sub-series also contains copies of J.B. Macaulay's Report to Sir George Arthur on Indian Affairs, 1839 (Vols. 718-719).
