Series consists of general correspondence and correspondence relating to Fox News.
Included are ten letters or telegrams from Harry Lawrenson (foreign editor, New York) or George Milford (Canadian news editor, Toronto) regarding Oliver's pictures for Fox News, with subjects including glaciers, Waterton Lakes, buffalo, turkeys, the Prince of Wales' ranch, and others; 31 Fox News Canadian edition bulletins announcing weekly awards for best photography and enterprise in obtaining photographs or motion pictures, and one Fox News foreign bulletin mentioning Oliver.
The general correspondence includes letters from the Department of Fisheries, 1932-1933, regarding an expedition aboard the Givency to film sea-lions at Cape St. James, B.C.; correspondence from a guide, James R. Stanton, regarding a proposed expedition to film grizzlies; a photocopy of a letter from Grey Owl, 1933, and a telegram from Robert J.C. Stead, 1937; and telegrams, 1936, from Michael Lerner regarding an African expedition.
Additional general correspondence includes some fifty items. Included are letters from the Duke of Connaught, 1917, and Lady Cromer, 1929, in England, relating to photographic mementoes of their visits to Alberta by W.J. Oliver. Four letters relate to Oliver's relationship with the American film company Thomas H. Ince Corporation (producers of The Law of the North, Lorna Doone, The Midnight Patrol, and other silent films), including an undated letter on Ince Corporation letterhead about Oliver's future with the company and letters, 1923, from J.C. Campbell of Canadian National Parks and authors Mabel B. Williams and Madge Macbeth. Other correspondents include Major Gordon W. Lillie, creator of the Pawnee Bill's Wild West show, whose letter is dated 1924 and is on Pawnee Bill's Buffalo Ranch letterhead, accompanied by a 20-page souvenir booklet Souvenir of Buffalo Ranch and its Owners (1911); Edmond S. Meany, Washington State legislator, historian and mountaineer, 1930, sending a holograph poem; Prime Minister R.B. Bennett, 1931, wanting a photograph; F.C. Badgley of the Canadian Government Motion Picture Bureau, 1931, regarding She Stoops to Conquer; and author Robert J. Stead, 1941. The correspondence includes letters from J.C. Campbell, 1931- 1935, discussing Oliver's films on buffalo and beaver and Grey Owl, as well as a 1931 letter from J. Smart of Riding Mountain National Park about Grey Owl; letters regarding J.C. Campbell's 1932 tour of the U.S. showing Oliver's films; a letter from A.G. Smith, Buffalo Park, 1932, describing a screening of The Home of the Buffalo; telegrams from Michael Lerner, 1936, and letters from contacts in East Africa, 1937; and correspondence about public appearances and lectures, including letters from D.W. Buchanan, 1937-1938.
