This series is divided into the following seven sections documenting Gerard V. La Forest's career with the Supreme Court of Canada:

Bench books (1985-1997) consisting of handwritten notes taken from the audiences and juges meetings. Arranged in chronological order. Vols. 25-26, 81.

Personal (1975-1997) consisting of personal records such as agendas, citations for Honorary Degrees, press clippings, statistics, etc. Arranged in chronological order. Vols. 62, 82-83.

Case Files (1982-1997) consisting of reports, office notes, correspondence, articles, memoranda, draft of judgments and other personal documents. Arranged in chronological order. Vols. 27-48, 63-70, 84-105. Some textual records in electronic format are available in vols. 80 and 120.

Correspondence (1981-1996) consisting of a letter of recommendation, letters of congratulations and replies regarding La Forest's appointment to the Supreme Court, personal correspondence and invitations. Arranged in chronological order. Vols. 48-49, 71. Some textual records in electronic format are available in vol. 119.

Committees (1985-1997) consisting of records created when Gerard V. La Forest was on several committees for the administration of the Supreme Court. Arranged in alphabetical order. Vols. 106-108.

Conferences (1983-1997)consisting of correspondence, programmes, speeches, and other documents relating to La Forest's presence and/or participation in various conferences. This sub-series is divided into "Universities", "Organizations", and "Associations". Documents are arranged alphabetically within each of these sub-sub-series.

Newspaper Clippings (1978-1997) consisting of clippings regarding La Forest's appointment to the Supreme Court, Supreme Court cases and Judges and La Forest's receipt of honorary degrees in law from Canadian universities and his activities with various associations. Also includes clippings (1986-1997) regarding personal case files. The former is arranged in chonological order and the latter is arranged in numerical order. Vols. 49-51, 77, 115.
