Series comprises the following two sections documenting Gérard V. La Forest's career with the University of New Brunswick:

One section consists of personal papers documenting La Forest's activities while he was a Professor of Law at the University of New Brunswick, and includes correspondence and course material (syllabi, examinations, notes and notebooks), as well as correspondence and other documents regarding his term at the University of Montreal between 1962-1963 and his enrolment at Yale University Faculty of Law between 1964-1965. There is also material regarding his work as a consultant, particularly in regards to the Extradition Study, the Royal Commission on Government Organization, St. John, the New Brunswick Election recount, references to offshore resources of Newfoundland and British Columbia, and the Federal Constitutional Committee regarding indirect taxation. Arranged in chronological order. The course material, however, is arranged in alphabetical order by course title.

The second section consists of a study on the law of waters conducted for the Atlantic Development Board consisting of chronologically arranged progress reports, financial statements, correspondence, agendas, contracts and a preliminary draft of the study. There are also time records, cheques and correspondence for each person employed in the study, and which are also arranged chronologically.
