Grummisch, W.D. MayDescription :This documentary explains how the National Aeronautical Establishment's Flight Impact Simulator, housed at the Uplands research facilities in Ottawa, is used to test the ability of aircraft to survive collisions with birds. This testing is done by using the Flight Impact Simulator, also known as the bird gun, to fire real or synthetic 4lb bird carcasses at aircraft parts such as windshields, wings, tail assembly, propellers, and engines. The speed at which the bird is fired is higher for military aircraft than for passenger aircraft. Each collision is filmed using both regular and high-speed cameras, and the results are analyzed to determine if the impact would cause the aircraft to crash. In order to pass, the aircraft part must not sustain damage that would prevent the pilot from landing safely. The film includes a fully explained demonstration of the simulator. <20mn>Langue :EnglishRemarques :Détails de l'inventaire : -
