Description :

The shorter reel contains footage of an event which may be taking place in the Burn Hall of the NRC's Mississippi Mills National Fire Laboratory. Men and women in suits and dresses mingle and seat themselves in rows of chairs facing a small stage. They listen to several people, including NRC president Dr. Larkin Kerwin, give speeches. There is also footage of the film crew recording the event. The longer reel contains footage of a modified de Havilland Canada DHC-5 Buffalo airplane landing, taxiing, and being worked on by a number of people at the Uplands airport in Ottawa. The plane's tail has an image of a Canadian flag, a NASA logo, and a National Aeronautical Establishment (NAE) logo. There is also brief footage of another plane, a de Havilland Canada DHC-5D Buffalo, and footage of men with moving image and still cameras. <17mn 10s>

1. There are no credits on the film identifying the creator.~2. Date is based on the film edge code.~3. The NRC's Mississippi Mills National Fire Laboratory started operations in 1981. It is possible this may be an event to mark its opening.~4. This DHC-5 Buffalo, a short take-off and landing (STOL) craft, was modified from its original design to include an Augmentor Wing, and jet engines developed by Rolls Royce, as part of a joint United States-Canada research program launched in 1965. The NAE took over control of this plane's operations in early 1980.
