Series largely consists of material documenting Alma Duncan's career, although also included is some material on Dunclaren Films and Audrey McLaren.
Included are records relating to Alma Duncan's commissions for graphic design and illustrations, the sale of paintings and drawings, applications for grants, and participation in exhibitions. They include correspondence, samples of graphic design, and copies of catalogues of exhibitions in which Alma Duncan participated. Among the catalogues are ones from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Winnipeg Art Gallery and Wells Gallery (Ottawa). Also included is material on the Federation of Canadian Artists and on the Writers', Artists', Broadcasters' War Council, 1940s, and photos documenting her entry in the United Hemisphere Poster Competition, 1942.
There is one file on Duncan's activities as a juror for the Canadian Film Awards. It includes correspondence and minutes of meetings. Also included are various philatelic records including correspondence and clippings relating to the postage stamps and aerogrammes designed by Alma Duncan.
Additional material includes further samples of Alma Duncan's graphic designs, including work for the Canadian Congress of Labour; Captain Morgan Rum; Co-operative Commonwealth Federation; Macdonald College (Montreal); National Film Board; Ottawa Music Festival; Ottawa Real Estate Board; Skyloft resort; and Steep Rock Iron Mines. There is one photo relating to work she did with the Ottawa Little Theatre, 1954. There is correspondence and other material related to her designs for Canada Post postage stamps and aerogrammes; texts and mock-ups for a proposed children's book based on Kumak the Sleepy Hunter; photographs relating to Duncan's Men At Work exhibition as well as correspondence, mock-ups, and other material documenting her work on the catalogue; and files relating to talks prepared for slide shows of her work.
The additional material includes two groups of files called Galleries and Shows. There is considerable overlap between these two groups, which both include material on Duncan's sales and exhibitions at commercial galleries (Galerie Anne Doran, Isaacs Gallery, Merton Gallery, Wells Gallery) and art museums. Also included is documentation on her exhibiting with the Art Association of Montreal, Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Canadian Society of Graphic Art, Canadian Group of Painters, Canadian Nature Federation, the National Film Board, and international print and drawing shows. The material in the files includes correspondence, lists, notes, exhibition notices and catalogues, copies of exhibition guest books, and other material. There are also photos documenting Duncan's exhibitions.
The additional material also includes a group of files called Art societies and organizations, including files on the Atai Foundation (including a letter from Alma Duncan to Alma Houston regarding the quality of Inuit crafts offered for sale), the Canadian Eskimo Arts Council (including a report by Sharon Van Raalte on an Inuit Art Film Project and photos), Canadian Society of Graphic Arts (including letters from Jo Rothfels and Kay Weber), and other organizations.
