Sub-series consists of typescripts, manuscript notes, printed material, correspondence and other material relating to Ted Allan's prose writings. Included are page proofs and a typescript of "Quest for Pajaro"; a photocopy of "This Time a Better Earth", and reviews; reviews of "Don't You Know Anybody Else"; files on "Willie the Squowse", including a radio script; and typescripts of articles, short stories and speeches. Also included are sound recordings, possibly recorded for radio broadcast, of Allan reading his stories "Excremental Therapy", "Das Kapital and Democracy in Montreal", "Brecht Was My Baby Sitter", "The Woman Lulli Sent Me" and "Looking For Bessie".

Additional material consists of material on articles for various scientific and medical subjects, on mental health, Canada, Russia, and Spain (for "The Clarion"); on published and unpublished short stories, including those published as "Don't You Know Anyone Else?"; on the novel "Love is a Long Shot", with a film adaptation by Michael Uris (the material on Allan's televison adaptation, "For Whom the Horses Run", is filed in the Manuscripts - Television sub-series); and on other prose projects. The sub-series includes some notes on World War II refugee stories which are annotated in another hand and may not be by Allan.

Further additional material includes a large number of early stories written by Ted Allan, many of which were based on his own life growing up in Montreal. There are unpublished novels, including the thinly disguised autobiography "The Minstrel Boy", as well as "Coming of Age", "Return, Return" and "Who'll Cast the First Stone" evidently written while Allan lived in New York. There are also copies of journalism pieces and speeches, the latter including a keynote address to the Canadian Authors' Association and Allan's notes for a Mordecai Richler roast. Some of the files contain correspondence or printed material as well as manuscripts.
