World war I veteran W.D. [William David?] Dodds is interviewed about his experiences with the 13th Canadian Infantry Battalion.~Dodds, who enlisted in 1914, became the "unofficial correspondent" for the Toronto Star newspaper which published his war recollections sent from the front by regular dispatches. He begins the interview with a description of the enthusiastic reception for the Canadian troops at Plymouth and the generous offer by a local peer to entertain a select group of Canadian soldiers.~Dodds reported on the gas attack at Second Ypres and notes that other papers picked up the story. Stating that he would never "forgive the Germans" for the gas attack on the hapless French Colonials, he remembers the victims who "begged and prayed not to be left to the Germans." He says the victims were "packed stretcher to stretcher" overwhelming the field hospitals. He comments that the Canadians who struggled to hold the gaps in the lines created by the fleeing gas victims, suffered very heavy losses.~Among the many topics discussed by Dodds are censorship of his news dispatches, the introduction of tanks, "those big, lumbering things", the infantry and artillery troops and the disparity between the officers and the enlisted men. He concludes with an account of the cancellation of his wedding plans by his suprerior officer the day before the ceremony.
