Interview of J.H.D. [James Hilliard Dickson?] Chisholm about his service with the 13th Canadian Infantry Battalion during World War I.~Chisholm, who enlisted in 1915, was drafted to the 13th battalion as a reinforcement after the heavy losses the battalion suffered during the battle of Mount Sorrel. Chisholm describes his participation as a bomber at the battle of the Somme in August 1916 where the 13th took over the line with the Australian troops at Mouquet Farm. Wounded taking the German Fabeck Graben trench, Chisholm remembers "crawling out" amid the ememy to the Canadian frontlines using shell holes for protection.~Aided by the Australians, he was taken to the dressing station and "under a white flag" he was carried by stretcher bearers who "dropped the stretcher" every time a shell came over. Evacuated by a horse-drawn ambulence, he was then trained to the coast and transferred to hospital in England.
