Veterans A. M. [Alfred Marshall?] Neal, S. W. Metcalf and Corporal C. C. [Charles C.?] Launder discuss their experiences with the 10th Canadian Infantry Battalion during World War I.~Neal and Metcalf describe the trench warfare at Ploegsteert as a "static line" because the "trenches became just like home." Unexpectedly, they recall overhearing a German soldier saying he had lived in Edmonton and that "he was going back there after the war." Focusing on the attack at the Marcoing Line near Cambrai on the 27th and 28th of September 1918, the veterans recall that they encountered uncut wire as they advanced to their objective of the Douai-Cambrai Road.~Having been ordered to retreat at the cost of many lives, they recall that fresh troops were ordered to advance to the area they had just abandoned. "That's administration for you." Citing an incident involving Brigadier-General Arthur Currie, they state, "He was an illustrious son of Canada and we're very proud of General Currie."~Corporal Launder, who led reinforcements to the battlefront at Arleux, describes the battle at Vimy. Ordered "to leave the wounded behind," he recalls advancing on his stomach to cut wire at night. The troops would throw bombs down the enemy trenches and the prisoners "came out by the hundreds." At the battle for Hill 70, he describes the detailed battle plans, the battalion's objective, the German counterattack, his wounding and the help he received from a wounded German officer.
