E. [William Earnest?] Curtis discusses his wartime experiences with the 10th Canadian Infantry Battalion during World War I.~Recalling his first nights at the front he says, "Fritz must have been wise to the fact we had no relief; he pounded the very stuff out of us." At Passchendaele, Curtis describes the duckwalks and the plank roads used by the battalions to reach and retreat from the frontlines. He recalls stepping off the duckboards and being "buried up to his neck in mud, sand and chalk." He also remembers seeing the German stretcher-bearers hiding machine guns on their stretchers while under the pretext of evacuating their casualties.~Having volunteered for the Trench Motar Battery, Curtis describes their advance on Caix on top of the tanks. Wounded at Hill 70, Curtis lost an arm and was released from service.Langue :EnglishDétails de l'inventaire : -
