This series is subdivided into the following three sub-series:

Philosophical and General Writings on Nature, n.d., 1885-1924, Volumes 3, 32.

General philosophical reflections on nature and art, comments on the English language, and didactic "how-to" articles offering instruction on topics such as fur-farming and forest survival.

Natural History, n.d., 1882-1945, Volumes 3-5, 32.

General observations on natural laws, flora, material on the Lives of Game Animals, information on the Arctic Expedition, writings on birds, wolves and foxes, rodents, big mammals and on dogs and other animals in war service. Sketches and maps, c.1907-1908, relating to The Arctic Prairies have been transferred to the appropriate divisions.

Artistic/Aesthetic Writings, n.d., 1882-1961, Volumes 5-8.

General philosophical observations, E.T. Seton's lectures and several attempts at writing plays, poetry and book reviews, non-animal stories, often in the nature of fables or aphoristic, didactic pieces, and anthropomorphosized animal stories.

It should be understood that the above three sub-series have been created to provide some organizational schema for the series; but material of one series can over-lap into another. For example, someone interested in E.T. Seton's perception of nature would have to deal with all sub-series and, moreover, would have to go to other series as well. (e.g. Woodcraft League of America and North American Indians series.)
