The Canada goose (Nis'ku in Cree language) is the subject of this special feature. Comments by wildlife management specialists, and footage of conservation areas, state and federal refuges in the United States and Canada, and geese during migration, nesting, raising of young, and practice flights, examine the situation of this recently endangered species. Topics explored are: characteristics of the Canada goose, its varieties, migration patterns, exploitation for hunting and tourism, breeding programs, study programs and conservation efforts.~Those interviewed include: Dr. Fred Bard and Dr. Albert Hochbaum at a conservation progject in Manitoba, and world authority Dr. Harold C. Hanson, credited with the rediscovery of the Giant Canada Goose.~Additional commentary is provided by representatives of a club at Cap Tremont, Quebec, along the St. Lawrence River, that conserves geese for hunting; the Canadian Wildlife Service; the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, Missouri, U.S.A.; the Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge, U.S.A.; the Manitoba Wildlife Branch; and a Canada goose sanctuary in the city of Rochester, New York, U.S.A., the southern point of migration for geese that breed in Manitoba.~Noteworthy footage includes: Canada geese stopping traffic as the walk across a road in Rochester; Brant geese being shot in British Columbia; Snow geese heading north to Eskimo Point; Ross' geese in farming areas in Saskatchewan; and Giant Canada geese huddled in late autumn snow before the southward migration begins. <60mn>
