Background interview held by radio researcher, Tracey Morey, with a Mr. Ferguson (a former union organizer?) in preparation for the CBC series, AS IT HAPPENS. Mr. Ferguson talks about his early life and agricultural and industrial working conditions in the early 1920s as well as various labour organizations in Canada. References are made to the International Workers of the World (I.W.W.) and the One Big Union (O.B.U.), trade-union federations; the Winnipeg Strike (1920s); the American Federation of Labour; the Communist Party of Canada; labour history in the Province of British Columbia; Malcolm (Boost?) and Arthur Evans, left-wing leaders, and, the Socialist Party of Canada. The Depression, W.W. II and the working class, extreme left-wing activism, and Chinese workers are other topics touched in this document. <55mn>
