This is program 2 in a series of 5 lectures by Dr. A. Trevor Hodge, Professor of Classics at Carleton University, Ottawa, and produced at CJOH-TV. The series looks at the history, society and archaeology of France in classical times, examining the contributions made by the Greeks, Romans and Gauls to French culture. The theme of this lecture is the spread of Greek civilization to France, starting with Greek colonies developing on the coast from the Spanish to the Italian border between 600 and 200 B.C. Trade and the spread of the Greek language are discussed.
