This is program 4 in a series of 5 lectures by Dr. Jacques Monet, Associate Professor of History at the University of Ottawa, produced at CJOH-TV in Ottawa. The lecture series examines efforts by generations of Quebec politicians to achieve autonomy for the province. It describes how these efforts have differed over time, as these sepratists confronted new issues such as the relationship of church and state, urbanization and conscription. The these of this program is the opposition by Quebec to wartime conscription and the resentment the people of Quebec feel when the rest of Canada supports conscription.
