Panel discussion on the topic of how the Canadian media reports on the political situation in South Africa with journalists Richard Cléroux, Ann Jean Baptiste, community activist in Ottawa, and professor and journalist, Peter Calami. During a ten-minute presentation by each panelist the following topics were discussed: the manipulation of the media by the South African government; the media focus on conflict; the lack of an historical background in news reporting on South Africa; and the difficulty of journalists to gain entry into black African countries. Calami focuses on his article entitled, "Envoy's Visit Protested", written by him on the occasion of the South African envoy's visit to his university class. The question period concentrates on the topic of "balance" in news reporting.
