This is a documentary about the life and career of CBS radio and television journalist Eric Sevareid. Using archival film clips and stills, the program traces Sevareid's childhood on a North Dakota farm, his work on a high-school newspaper and college journalism, his anti-war views, his settling in Paris in 1937, his work as a reporter for the Paris edition of the New York Herald, his coverage of the Spanish Civil war and the rise of the Nazis, and his start with CBS as a radio reporter in 1939. The program takes the story of Sevareid's life to 1940, when the Nazis captured Paris and Sevareid concluded that despite his opposition to war, the Allies must fight the Nazis and fascists. Included are brief clips from his radio broadcasts. <1h>
