Fonds consists of Peter K. Lewin's records documenting exhibitions of Woodland Indian art and correspondence from Native artists, as well as related printed material. The fonds contains photographs of the exhibition, Contemporary Native Art - the Woodland Indians, exhibited at Lahr, West Germany, 7-21 March 1976; and views of Lahr and exhibition installation.

Lewin, Peter K : Peter K. Lewin was born in Palestine and educated in Egypt and England. He served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, 1960-1963, in Canada and Germany. Since then he has served with the Canadian Militia. After 31 years of service with the Military, Dr. Lewin retired at the end of 1991. In 2002, he was created the Hon. Lt. Colonel of the 25 Medical Company, Toronto.

A pediatrician, Lewin was a staff physician at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He also worked as a visiting pediatrician to the Sioux Lookout Indian and Northern Affairs hospital, where he first became interested in the Woodland Indian art movement, meeting a number of Woodland Indian artists and collecting their work. From 1966 Dr. Lewin was also actively involved in Medical Archaeology, having pioneered electron microscopy and the latest imaging techniques in this field.

In June 1974 Dr. Lewin was appointed the Honorary Physician to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, during her Toronto visit.

In 1976, Lewin organized Contemporary Native Art - the Woodland Indians, an exhibition of Woodland Indian art that travelled to Lahr, Germany and London, England. In 1993 he helped facilitate the Woodland Art of Canada's First Nations exhibition held at the Budapest Spring Festival, Hungary.

Dr. Lewin passed away 7 June 2005.
