The fonds also contains photographs depicting events and activities of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada including National Conference on World Population Year. Other media included are, and 15 posters produced for PPFC and other similar organizations.
Also included in the fonds are sound recordings and moving images relating to the work of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada.Provenance :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada : The Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada is a voluntary, charitable status, non-profit, non-governmental federation of organizations dedicated to education and advocacy related to family planning. It was founded in Toronto, Ontario, in 1963, as the Canadian Federation of Societies for Population Planning, by a coalition of social reformers, advocates and supporters of family planning. In 1966, its name was changed to the Family Planning Federation of Canada. In 1975, it was renamed the Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada, the name by which it is known today.
The P.P.F.C. is guided by a national board and its national headquarters are in Ottawa, Ontario. It has member associations representing every province and territory in the country. It's activities are carried out by P.P.F.C. staff, volunteers and contract employees. While the federal government does provide an operating grant, funding from sponsors and private sources plays a major role in financing its activities. The P.P.F.C. is one of the more than a hundred nations having membership in the International Planned Parenthood Federation.
The main objectives of the P.P.F.C. are to provide advocacy and support for family planning, to provide a national organization for societies and associations with similar objectives, to promote research on human sexuality and education on family planning, and to inform the public on the problems arising from uncontrolled population growth. As a core part of its mandate is to encourage public awareness, the organization has been responsible for the production and distribution of pamphlets, posters, television and radio advertisements on family planning and bith control. It has published research reports and resource guides and conducted national surveys on issues related to family planning and sexuality. The P.P.F.C. has also made presentations to parliamentary committees and royal commissions. It has sponsored and organized international conferences and symposiums and participated in international forums, such as United Nations conferences and annual meetings.
In addition to family planning, the P.P.F.C. is concerned with a variety of social issues including abortion choice, the provision of sex education in schools, the provision of birth control services, and women's health issues.
