Fonds consists of advertising, articles, catalogues, price lists and standards relating to dental burs produced by Beavers Dental and others; income tax returns, ledgers, production and cost figures for bur production by Beavers Dental; correspondence with dentists doing research and testing of dental burs; and Jota-Werk and Beavers Dental bur machine drawings and sketches.

Beavers Dental Division of Sybron Canada Ltd : George Beavers (1909-1975), dental bur manufacturer, in 1936, bought the patent medicine business of G.C. Briggs & Sons (est. 1844) and in 1940, he bought the Challies toothbrush company of Morrisburg, the oldest toothbrush company in Canada. Beavers then moved all his operations to Morrisburg. In 1940 ,the Canadian government asked George Beavers to start the production of dental burs, the miniature cutters that go into a dentist's drill, which were in short supply because of the war. After a great deal of effort, a machine was built. Wanting to improve the quality of the burs, Beavers was sent to investigate the Jota Werke factory in Düsseldorf, which had been a world-leader in producing quality dental burs. The Jota Werke factory had been bombed-out during the war and reconstruction was on-going. In 1948, with the permission of the Canadian government, Beavers brought over its president, Rudolf Funke, and two of his skilled workers. With these craftsmen Beavers Dental started to build its own bur-making machinery and to produce standard steel dental burs.

Funke and his workers had already experimented in making carbide tipped dental burs which outlasted steel dental burs many times over. In order to produce these new burs it was necessary for Beavers Dental to design and build its own specialized welding machines and automatic grinding machines using diamond cutting wheels. The company started the mass production of carbide burs in 1957. To develop new dental bur shapes, Beavers started to collaborate with leading dentists and dental schools to develop their ideas. About 75 percent of current bur designs have originated with Beavers.

George Beavers continued to own Beavers Dental Products Ltd. until 1974 when it was sold to the American Hospital Supply Corp. In 1982, Beavers Dental became part of Sybron Corp. of Minneapolis. Beavers Dental is now the world's largest producer of dental burs, making over 25 million of them a year, of which 85 percent is exported to over 80 countries. It is the major supplier to the Canadian, American and Japanese markets. Beavers Dental is a recognized world leader in the design and production of high quality dental burs. Their success is due to their innovative designs and to the fluting and grinding machines which they design and build themselves.
