Fonds consists of the military papers, ca. 1942-1945, of the McGibbon family of Montreal: Gilbert Donald McGibbon(1885-1916); Dr. Roy Hosmer McGibbon (1886-1961); and Robert Lorne McGibbon (1916-1990).

The fonds also includes photographs, ca. 1916-1943, depicting events and individuals associated with the military careers of members of the McGibbon family of Montreal.

McGibbon, 1885-1990 (family) : Gilbert Donald McGibbon (1885-1916), military officer, was the son of Robert Davidson McGibbon of Montreal. A graduate of the Royal Military College, he served as an officer with the 13th Battalion, C.E.F. He was killed in action while serving with the battalion.

Dr. Roy Hosmer McGibbon (1886-1961), military officer, was the son of Robert Davidson McGibbon of Montreal. He served with the Canadian Army Medical Corps in England and France during the First World War. During the Second World War, he was in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, serving as District Medical Officer for Military District No. 4 in Montreal.

Robert Lorne McGibbon (1916-1990), military officer, son of Dr. R.H. McGibbon, was an officer serving with the 2nd Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment, of the British Army from 1939-1948. He served in Palestine and Egypt before being captured at Crete in May 1941. From then until 1945, he was in several German prisoner of war camps.
