Fonds consists of personal papers consisting of correspondence, subject files, newspaper items, newsletters and other printed material and photographs mostly relating to Jacie Horwitz's involvement and participation in the Canadian Jewish community. Included are some rare printed items produced by the Federation of Young Judea of Canada, Hadassah, B'nai B'rith and the Zionist Organization of Canada. Some of the organizations represented in the collection include: B'nai Brith Canada, the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, Canadian Friends of Haifa University, the National Joint Community Relations Committee and Queen's University Hillel Foundation. Also included are several files relating to Mr. Horwitz's legal career in Ottawa (volumes 1 and 2).

The fonds also contains photographs relating to Jacie Horwitz's involvement and participation in the Canadian Jewish community. Photographs included the 26th Annual Convention Eastern Canadian Council B'nai B'rith, Ottawa; B'nai B'rith International Convention, Washington; Canadian Friends of Haifa University, speech delivered to Abba Eban; Israel Bond Drive; Ottawa Bond Drive; Queens' University Hillel Foundation; Mr & Mrs. Horwitz's trip to Israel; the Gaza strip; activities of Ottawa Women's involvement in this community; and photographs of Mr. Horwitz with some political figures such as Golda Meir, and Robert Bourassa.

Horwitz, Jacie C., 1914-1998 : Jacie Charles Horwitz was born in Ottawa on May 13, 1914. He graduated with a B.A. from Queen's University in 1936. He practised criminal and civil law in Ottawa for 32 years, after graduating from Osgoode Hall in 1939. In 1970, he became the first chairman of the Commercial Registration Appeal Tribunal. He served as a provincial court judge, 1979-1984 and as a National Capital Commission Commissioner, 1959-1966.

Judge Horwitz was active in the Jewish community from an early age serving as president of Ottawa Young Judea at age 17. In 1945, he was elected president of Ottawa B'nai Brith, 1945-1946 and later served as president of B'nai Brith District Grand Lodge No. 22, 1967-1969. He was president of the Jewish Community Council of Ottawa, 1970-1971. He also served as executive director of the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews in 1984 and founder of the Canadian Friends of Haifa University.

Jacie Horwitz passed away in 1998.
