Church of Scotland. Colonial Committee : A Committee for Promoting the Religious Interests of Scottish Presbyterians in the British Colonies was established by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1836. The name was changed later and from 1856 it was known as the Colonial Committee or the General Committee of Colonial Scheme. Its chief purpose was to select and finance ministers and schoolmasters for the colonies and to fund the construction of churches and schools.
