Item consists of a history of the ancestors of John M. Parrot of Belleville. The study provides an account of the history of Lot 12, Concession 1, Thurlow Township, Hastings County, Ontario, which was originally granted to loyalist Edward Carscallen in 1790. It also shows the connection between the Carscallen and Parrott families; gives an account of the Parrott family, together with a chronology of family events, 1740-1978; and includes two maps, two family charts, and abstracts of the wills of James and John Parrot. Information on the sources used for the study is also provided.

Parrot (family) : John Parrot (Parrott, Perret/t/, Perrot/t) (1746-1830) was a mariner, a native of Massachusetts, who operated out of Beverly Harbour, Massachusetts, and settled there in 1769, after his marriage to Ruth Treadwell (1751-1820) of Ipswich, Massachusetts. During the War of the American Revolution, John Parrot fought on the American side, while his elder brother, James Parrot (ca. 1740-1821) served with the British in Jessup's Rangers. After the war, James Parrot was granted land as a loyalist in Ernestown Township, Addington County, Upper Canada. Being childless and without other relatives, James Parrot was anxious to persuade his brother to join him in Canada, and eventually succeeded in doing so, ca. 1803.
