This material is located on microfilm reel A-1925.Biographie/Histoire administrative :George Cornewall Lewis: War Office and India, 1806-1863 : Sir George Cornewall Lewis, British statesman and author, was Secretary for War from 22 July 1861 to his death, 13 April 1863. His tenure as Secretary for War coincided with a war scare with the United States over what has become known as the Trent Affair. Lewis was responsible for the despatch of British troops to reinforce the garrisons of the British North American provinces.
