Fonds consists of the following series of textual records, n.d., 1897-1984: minutes and subject index, master circulars, central registry, files on cancelled branches, subject files, Canvet Publications, Great War Veterans' Association of Canada, Treasury Department, microfilm of destroyed registry files. The microfilmed material is located on microfilm reels M-8506 to M-8554.
Fonds also contains graphic materials. 212 photographs, 1916-1936, predominant 1936, are group photographs of personnel of the 188th Battalion, C.E.F., Camp Hughes, Man., 1916; a group photograph of delegates attending the second Dominion Convention of the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League, Saint John, N.B., June 1928; and photographs from a scrapbook documenting a Vimy Pilgrimage by members of the Canadian Legion to Britain and France for the unveiling of the Vimy Ridge Memorial, July 1936. The photographs from the Vimy Pilgrimage scrapbook were taken by unknown photographers and by Allen M. Davies of the Government Motion Picture Bureau, and include some that depict the Canadian Olympic Team which had travelled on the same ship as Davies, and some ephemera, including half-tone postcards. One photograph, 1919, depicts delegates to the Great War Veterans' Association convention, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ten photographs, ca. 1936, depict Canadian and German trenches and memorials commemorating the Battle of Vimy Ridge, France, 1917.
Also included are three photographs, 1977, depicting Walter Dufek, president of the Czechoslovak Veterans Association with Ontario Premier William Davis, with the Polish Veterans' Association, and at a wreath laying ceremony. Fonds also contains photographs related to Royal Canadian Legion oral history projects. Inlcuded are photos, ca. 1900-1987, predominant 1940-1945, 1950s, acquired by interviewers in the course of the Royal Canadian Legion Diamond Jubilee Aural History Project. Photos depict views of individual Royal Canadian Legion buildings, events at Legion halls; cenotaphs, parades, and services; group of veterans; WWII servicemen, primarily airmen; WWII aircraft; and badges.
Fonds also contains medallic objects including four medals, ten badges, six pins, one ribbon and one drawing, ca. 1950s-1960s, including Royal Canadian Legion sports medals, Royal Canadian Legion badges, Royal Canadian Legion pins, a ribbon and a badge design.
Fonds also consists of moving image and sound recordings. Included are radio documentaries about John McCrae and Canadian war veterans; a sound recording documenting a television discussion program about war veterans and the work of the Royal Canadian Legion; and one moving image recording depicting John Diefenbaker lying in state, 1979. Fonds also consists of moving image and sound recordings related to Royal Canadian Legion oral history projects. Included are oral history interviews with four members of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 87 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario as part of the Diamond Jubilee Aural History Project; oral history interviews with members of the Royal Canadian Legion throughout Canada about their war experiences, career accomplishments, personal background and activities within the Royal Canadian Legion, 1985-1987; and moving images recordings of oral history interviews with members of the Royal Canadian Legion throughout Canada about their war experience, career, accomplishments, personal background and activities within the Royal Canadian Legion.
