World Handicraft Foundation : The World Handicraft Foundation was incorporated in Toronto on October 24, 1966. This non-profit organization was established to promote and to market well-designed products particularly expressive of the cultural heritage of the regions in which these materials were produced. The World University Service of Canada was the founding agency and together with the support of individual students and faculty members launched this innovative marketing concept.

In January 1967, the Foundation assumed operations of the Artisans Craft Gallery in old Gerrard Street Village. By 1975, the ascendancy of several crafts organizations and sales outlets in the city suggested to the Foundation Executive that its policies and programmes should by reviewed. After twelve months of study, the concept of facilitating the presentation of Canadian Indian Art was determined to be a priority activity by the Foundation. On February 22 1977, the Gallery of Native Art was officially opened at 17 Church Street, in the centre of Toronto. The foundation in now defunct.
