In 1969, he became Associate Professor in the Department of Political Economy of the University of Toronto.
He was managing editor of the Canadian Forum 1968-1973 and was a founding member of the Committee for an Independent Canada in 1970 and of the University League for Social Reform in 1962. From 1967 to 1968, he served on the Federal Task Force on Foreign Ownership and the Structure of Canadian Industry. He has published a large number of books as either author, collaborator or editor.
