Fonds consists of specific correspondence relating to National Archives, Champlain Society, National Battlefields Commission, Wolfe Memorial and Quebec Centenary; general correspondence arranged chronologically; subject files; autograph album; index and address book; diaries; "Correspondance de Bougainville"; additional correspondence, documents and printed matter; Athenaeum Club, London, England: invoices and invitations; copy of "Golden Dog"; manuscript; appointment as KC; and correspondence on microfilm, reel M-2244. The microfilmed material consists of a collection of autograph letters signed by prominent persons active in Canadian affairs and addressed to Doughty, 1902-1913.

Photographic material consists of photographs acquired or taken by Sir Arthur Doughty during his lifetime.

Artistic material consists of watercolours, prints and drawings of historical events and figures in Canadian history including the first sale of furs at Garraway's Coffee House, the Taking of Quebec, the Hudson's Bay Company, François Laval de Montmorency, and the 3rd Earl of Bathurst.

Medallic items consists of 38 medals such as German propoganda medals, the Royal Society of Canada Flavelle medal, as well as Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire medal.

Doughty, Arthur G. (Arthur George), Sir, 1860-1936 : Sir Arthur Doughty, archivist and historian, was born on March 22, 1860 in Maidenhead, England. He was educated in England, and came to Canada in 1886. After a number of years spent in journalism and in the Quebec public service as joint librarian of the Legislative Library, he became Dominion Archivist in 1904, succeeding Douglas Brymner. He retired in 1935 and was created K.C.M.G. the same year. He authored and edited numerous works of prose and verse and of Canadian history. He collaborated with Adam Shortt to produce the sourcebook, "Documents Relating to the Constitutional History of Canada: 1759-1791" in 1907, and "Canada and Its Provinces" in 23 volumes, 1913-1917. He died in Ottawa on December 1, 1936.

Note générale :

Textual material received in 1938, 1950, 1976 and 1978. The awards and cards in volume 14 were received from the Canadian War Museum in 1986. The manuscript of "Helen and Aphrodite" were acquired in 1987. Two letters from R. de Kerallain to Arthur G. Doughty, 1 February 1901, 2 February 1901, were acquired in 1989. Medallic items acquired in 1950 from Mrs. Paul Mathieu, Arthur George Doughty's daughter. Art reproductions received in 1934 from Arthur George Doughty. Art prints received in 1934 from the estate of Arthur George Doughty and in 1984 from Black Valley Productions, Ottawa, Ontario. Photographs received from 1921-1938 from Arthur George Doughty or the Estate of Arthur George Doughty. Three photographs were probably acquired during this same time period but accessioned in 1952, 1984 and 1987.
