Colonial Office 329, copied in its entirety, consists of registers of correspondence for British North America. Some of the out-letters and related minute sheets for Canada, Newfoundland, British North America and Emigration between 1872 and 1880 will be found registered in this class. This material is available on microfilm reels B-3114 and B-3115.

The same classification and registry procedures is followed in this class of registers as for previous ones with the exception that there is no "Despatches" category. The use of the "Colony" column is different from CO 327 because the information provided in this column in CO 329 is sometimes integrated with the "Reference" column. Hence, if "Newfoundland" appears in either of the previously mentioned columns, a copy of the out-letter or the relevant minute sheet, should be found in CO 194, Newfoundland, Original Correspondence. Occasional departures from the standard practice of copying out-letters leaves the possibility open that the notation in the register may be the only surviving record in the Colonial Office papers of an out-letter. Registers for the "Public Offices and Individuals" categories of Canada out-letters for 1874 to 1880 are provided in CO 329 rather than in CO 340 where these registers might be sought.

The following list provides the corresponding Index Room numbers assigned by the Public Record Office to each volume of CO 329 and the years covered by the registers: CO 329 vol. 1, PRO Index Room Number 12881, Years 1874-1876; CO 329 vol. 2, Number 12882, Years 1877-1880; CO 329 vol. 3, Number 21219, Years 1872-1873.
