He received his secondary education in Jerusalem, and did undergraduate and postgraduate studies in medicine at the University of London in England. Upon completion of his studies in 1958, he returned to the Middle East, to work in Jordan. He returned to England to study pathology at the Royal Post-Graduate Medical School of the University of London. He again returned to Jordan in 1966. He and his family were expelled from their home in 1967 by the Israelis after their seizure of the West Bank.
Zayid taught at the Royal Post-Graduate Medical School, 1970-1971, and in 1972 moved to Halifax to take up a position in the Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University. He was a founding member of both the Canada Palestine Association and the Arab Canadian Association of the Atlantic Provinces. He is currently (1984) president of both associations. Dr. Zayid has written and lectured largely on questions of the Middle East and on Palestinians.
