Documentary on the events that preceded the migration of the Scots Highlanders to Western Canada, on the occasion of the 150\up12 th anniversary of the Selkirk settlement in the Red River Valley. The eviction by the British army of small-scale Scots farmers from their land and the rent increases that bankrupted others forced many of these farmers to emigrate. Many moved to the Red River Valley in Western Canada in the early 1800s. Includes footage of the stone foundations of abandoned farm houses and intact stone houses with thatched roofs, drawings of early settler life, photographs taken at the turn of the century of pioneer life, footage of the highlands in Scotland, and footage of modern Scotland. <30mn>
