Fonds contains records which document Dr. William H. Boyd's grievances concerning his merit increases and his extensive submission, supported by the Guelph Faculty Association and the Canadian Association of University Teachers to obtain a promotion to full Professor. Boyd ultimately had to go to court to force the University to reveal its criteria for promotion. The fonds includes files concerning tenure and promotion, 1967-1980, teaching material and research files, 1963-1982, and personal correspondence, 1969-1979.

Also included in the fonds is a drawing of Dr. Boyd, presented to him by the class of 1978-779 as an award for excellent teaching.

The fonds also includes photographs of a lockmaster on hill above Davis Lock on the Rideau Canal, Ont., and a view of a craft approaching Davis Lock, [ca. 1900-1930].

Boyd, William Harold, 1927- : William H. Boyd received his education from Amherst University, Mass., B.Sc. 1955, McGill University, M.Sc. 1959, and Queen's University, Ph.D. 1962. He was a medical demonstrator at McGill in neurology from 1959-1960, a lecturer at Queen's from 1960 to 1962 and Assistant Professor in Medicine at New York University from 1962-1967. He received his position at Guelph in 1967 in Human Anatomy and was tenured in 1968 as an Associate Professor. He was promoted to full Professor in 1980.

William Boyd has done considerable research on the pituitary gland and published extensively in learned journals in Canada, the United States and Europe. His research was largely funded by the National Research Council.
