Fonds consists of papers relating to Professor Nutt's involvement with the Arctic Institute of North America (A.I.N.A.) including series with: Board of Governors meeting minutes and correspondence; committees correspondence and subject files; subject files.

Fonds also contains 31 photographic prints and transparencies depicting views of airbases, tunnels, and buildings in the far north, 1955-1961; and one photograph, 1961, depicting a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Arctic Institute of North America, Montreal, Quebec, 27 May 1961.

Nutt, David C., 1919- : David C. Nutt, Arctic explorer, professor, was a captain in the U.S.N.R.-R., a Master in the U.S. Merchant Marine and an associate professor of Geography at Darmouth College, and began his Arctic work in 1935 serving with the Bartlet Greenland Expeditions, 1935-1940. During W.W. II he served in the U.S. Navy with the Hydrographic Surveys in Greenland and as the commanding officer of a fleet survey ship in the Pacific and North China Sea. From 1947-1948 he participated in the U.S. Navy Antarctic "Operation Windmill". He led the series of winter and summer Blue Dolphin Labrador Expeditions from 1949-1954.

From 1954-1959 he collaborated in a study of gas inclusions in glacier ice which included the Arctic Institute Expedition to Greenland in 1958. He also headed the 1956 geographical survey in Greenland to locate a trans-shipment port for the trans-shipment of iron ore.

Professor Nutt has been involved with the Arctic Institute of North America in various capacities since shortly after its founding in 1944-1945. He served for a total of 12 years, 1957-1962, 1965-1970, on the institute's Board of Governors, including 2 years as Chairman of the Board and for a number of these years was on the Executive Committee.
