Fonds consists of textual records relating to the military career of Frederick T. Mace including memoranda regarding the Empire Travel and Scholarship Scheme, 1928, scrapbooks containing invitations, newspaper clippings, and correspondence, 1950-1969, and speeches, 1955, n.d.

Fonds contains photographs, ca. 1940-1968, depicting military personnel; various meetings of federal government officials including Lester Pearson with a group of Deputy and Assistant Deputy Ministers, Ottawa, Ont., and participants in Department of Veterans Affairs Personnel Conference, Ottawa, Ont. The fonds also contains photographs showing Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at National War Memorial, Ottawa,

Mace, Frederick T., 1908-1980 : Frederick T. Mace, public servant, military officer, was born in 1908 at London, England, received his education from the University of Sakatchewan, 1930-1934, and qualified to be a chartered accountant. Prior to World War II, he commenced his military career as 2nd Lieutenant, 1940-1941, with the 5th Field Brigade, Royal Canadian Artillery in Winnipeg. Mace began active duty with the Canadian Army in 1941 until 1945. He served with 12 Ordnance Stores Company, Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in Canada and obtained the ranks of Lieutenant, 1941, Captain, 1942, and then Major, 1945.

From January 1945 until June 1945 he served with the United States 8th Army in the South West Pacific as a Canadian Observer. During this period he participated in the amphibious assault on Mindanao in the Phillipines with the 24th Division of the United States Army. From June 1945 until November 1945, he served with Pacific Command in Canada.

After the war he joined the Canadian Army, Militia, as the Quarter-master of the 39th Field Regiment, R.C.A., from 1946 to 1948. Mace then served with various Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps units from 1948 until 1957 when he retired from the Star and the 1939-1945 Star. He was also awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and clasp, and the Canadian Forces Decoration. In 1950 Mace was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel. During the late 1950's his civilian occupation was Assistant Deputy Minister, Department of Veterans Affairs.
