It was organized in 1896 as part of the Rochester Conference of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of America by the Rev. Ralph Cecil Horner (1854-1921), who had been deposed in 1895 from the ministry of the Montreal Conference of the Methodist Church of Canada.
In 1897, when the Rochester Conference in its turn deposed him, the Rev. Horner wished to include the congregation in his new Holiness Movement Church, but it refused and elected to remain Methodist. At that time, it called upon the Missionary Secretary, the Rev. W.H. Kennedy, to assist in the reorganization. The Rev. H.S. Abbott, Missionary Superintendent, was placed in charged and remained with the congregation until February 1898 when the congregation joined the Winchester Circuit of the Canada Conference of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of American, with the Rev. John Scobie as pastor.
The first church building was destroyed by fire in 1922, but a new building was dedicated, 30 September 1923, during the pastorate of the Rev. Edwin Claxton. Since it was not part of the Methodist Church of Canada, the congregation did not join in the union of 1925 which created the United Church of Canada, but remained as one of the continuing bodies of Methodists outside that denomination.Information additionnelle :Note générale :Received in 1986 from Mr. I.G.
