The fonds (which was previously described as an index to the register of births, marriages, and deaths for Hillier Township, 1880-1898) appears to be a photocopy of excerpts, from a township book in which a rough record was kept, chronologically not alphabetically, of the births, marriages, and deaths reported for registration every six months. The records are found on pages 1-15, 20-24, 30-36, 39, and 41 of the book. The last two pages record the names and ages of the children in several families in a number of settlements, namely Allisonville, Consecon, Hillier, Melville, and Wellington in Hillier Township, and Ameliasburg Township.

Hillier Township. Ontario. Local records : Hillier Township is one of the western townships of Prince Edward County, which was the tenth of the 19 counties into which Upper Canada was divided by proclamation, 16 July 1792. Initially it was part of Ameliasburgh Township, but was divided from it by an act of the Upper Canada legislature in 1823, and named after Major George Hillier, secretary to Lieutenant Governor Sir Peregrine Maitland. It was originally settled by United Empire Loyalists.
