Fonds also contains photographic materials which depict events, activities and individuals, associated with the career of Richard Rohmer.
In addition, fonds includes moving images and sound recordings consisting of an interview of R. Rohmer by Dr. Reg Clark of Queen's University and a speech by Rohmer at Whitehorse and delegates on Mid-Canada Development Corridor. Additional audio and video material contains speeches, commentaries, interviews, reports and radio and television broadcasts by and about Major General Richard Rohmer, 1969-1991. Sound recordings consist of dictations of Rohmer's books including Ultimatum, Exodus UK, Exxoneration, Periscope Red, Separation, Balls, Patton's Gap, Retaliation, Separation 2; dictation for script of NFB film entitled Referendum; comments by Rohmer on writing best sellers, radio script, and his CBC radio plays; comments by Rohmer on the novel Buffalo, on how to start writing; CBC radio program entitled As it happens; and an interview with Rohmer on his career and his writings.
Also included in fonds are three posters, 1976-ca. 1984, advertising Richard Rohmer's books, entitled Separation, a novel by Richard Rohmer, 1976; E.P. Taylor, a Biography of Edward Plunkett Taylor by Richard Rohmer; and Exxoneration, a Novel by Richard Rohmer.
Maps detailing oil and gas exploration in the Canadian Arctic; and land development in the Bahamas are also included in this fonds.Provenance :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Rohmer, Richard, 1924- : Richard Rohmer, author, lawyer, was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and educated at Assumption College, the University of Western Ontario and Osgoode Hall. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1951 and the Bar of the Northwest Territories in 1970. He was created Queen's Counsel in 1961 and has practised law in Toronto and Collingwood, specializing in transportation, land development and municipal law. In 1958 he was elected to serve as Councillor in North York. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Mediacom Ltd. He was Chancellor of the University of Windsor 1978-1989.
Rohmer served with the RCAF 1942-1945 as a fighter pilot. He was commanding officer of 400 Squadron (Toronto) and 411 Squadron (York) 1952-1953 and appointed Chief of Reserves of the Canadian Armed Forces 1979. He retired from the Armed Forces with the rank of Major-General in 1981. He was Vice-Chairman and CEO of Toronto Airways Ltd. 1986-1989.
Rohmer served as Chairman of the Ontario Royal Commission on Book Publishing, 1971-1972. He published his first book, The Green North, in 1970 which, with its successor The Arctic Imperative (1973), reflected his interest in northern development. He has since published some ten best-selling novels, including Ultimatum (1973), Exxoneration (1974), Separation (1976), and Starmageddon (1986). He is the author of a biography of E.P. Taylor and a military history, Patton's Gap (1981), as well as other books. He is also a journalist, contributing to the Toronto Sun and other newspapers, as well as appearing on television and radio.
