Fonds consists of correspondence of Donald and Hector McKinnon, brothers, to their family during their military service.

The fonds also includes photographic material depicting the investiture of Hector McKinnon as Companion of the Order of Canada by Governor General Roland Michener, 12 November 1968; photographs of an army camp, probably in Britain, ca. 1915.

McKinnon, Donald (family) : Donald and Hector McKinnon, brothers, were born in Priceville, Ont. Donald McKinnon (1892-1917) worked in railway, mail service until he enlisted in 1915. Training in Quebec for his captaincy, he resigned his Commission in order to go to the front sooner and joined the Canadian Engineers (Sappers). After having trained in Britain, he fought in France with the 10th Battery, Canadian Field Artillery, Signal Company. He died of wounds received at the front in 1917.

Hector McKinnon (1890-1981) was educated at the Jarvis Collegiate Institute and the Toronto Normal School. He served in World War I as an Adjutant 110th Infantry Battalion after which he was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps. After the war, he was on the staff of The Globe. During World War II he was Chairman of the Wartime Prices and Trade Board, 1940-1941, and President of the Commodity Prices Stabilization Corporation, 1941-1946. Afterwards he was Chairman of the Tariff Board of Canada until his resignation in 1959.
