Fonds consists of correspondence, reports, financial records, circulars, periodicals and other material relating to Mr. Omelan Tarnavskyj's activities in Plast-Ukrainian Youth Association of Canada and other Ukrainian community organizations in Canada, n.d., 1928-1986.

Fonds contains photograph albums and photographs dipicting Ukranian scout camps; photographs of a Ukrainian political rally against the USSR. The fonds contains photographs related to Plast-Ukrainian Youth Association of Canada and Mr. Tarnavskyj's community activities, 1920-1975.

Fonds also contains posters regarding different events related to Ukrainian political prisoners, and religious events in Toronto, 1980-1981.

Tarnavskyj, Omelan, 1910-2000 : Omelan Tarnavskyj was born on 27 May 1910 in Western Ukraine. He studied law at the University of Lwow (Lviv) and later at the Wirtschafts Hochschule in Berlin, he completed his studies in economics. During the Second World War, he worked as a financial administrator in the Ukrainian Central Committee in Krakow.

He emigrated to Canada in 1949 and settled in Toronto. He became one of the founders of Plast-Ukrainian Youth Association. He held various executive positions at the national level in the organization and was actively involved in Plast publication projects. He also worked as an editor of several publications including the newspaper, Novyi Shliakh (New Pathway).

Omelan Tarnavskyj was also actively involved in various Ukrainian community and academic organizations including the Ukrainian Catholic Church. He devoted his life to the preservation and development of Ukrainian language and culture in Canada and his papers reflect the extent of his activities and interests. He died in Toronto on 30 September 2000.
