1 viewLangue du document :anglaisPortée et contenu :Fonds consists of records reflecting Parkin's interest in the Parkin family, his career, and various organizations. The textual records, 1828-1977, include personal papers; family papers; "Parkin Chronicle"; an unpublished manuscript; family research; educational institutes, associations; Alicia Patterson Fund; American universities field staff; Institute of Current World Affairs; Canadian Institute of International Affairs; Arctic Institute of North America; and correspondence between G. Raleigh Parkin and Terry Cook concerning Sir George Parkin. There is a microfilm copy of transcripts of correspondence of Sir Samuel J. Way with sir George Parkin, 1898-1905. The microfilmed material is located on microfilm reel A-631.
Fonds also contains photographs, (ca. 1846-ca. 1930) relating to various aspects of Raleigh Parkin's career, personal life and his family. Also included in the fonds are photographs relating to Raleigh Parkin's father, Sir George Robert Parkin.
In addition, fonds contains cartographic materials produced for military purposes during World War I, and depict France; the British Empire; while others illustrate military strategies by showing the location of trenches and machine gun barrage on French territory. Others relate to geographic aspects of New Brunswick, many by the Department of Mines. Also included is a topographic map of Great Britain and tables related to the Montreal sewer system.
Also included are sound recordings of interviews and conversations made by Raleigh Parkin in his research on his family, and recordings of an M.A. speech by Brickington.

Biographie/Histoire administrative :Parkin, George Raleigh, 1896-1977 : George Raleigh Parkin, executive, was the son of Sir George Robert Parkin (1846-1922) educationalist and first administrator of the Rhodes Scholarship Trust. Raleigh was educated at Oxford University and the Royal Military College at Kingston. In World War I he served as an officer in the British Infantry at Gallipoli in 1915 and in the Canadian Artillery and Royal Engineers in France, 1916-1919. He joined the Investment Department of the Sun Life Assurance Company of Montreal in 1922 where he worked until his retirement, holding the successive positions of Supervisor Foreign Investments, Assistant Treasurer and Associate Treasurer.
He was active in a large number of organizations in connection with his work at Sun Life. He served for 20 years as trustee of the Institute of International Affairs of New York, Chairman of the Markle Foundation's Canadian Selection Committee in 1948 and he was a founding member and Governor of the Arctic Institute of North America as well as being involved in many other associations.Information additionnelle :Note générale :Received at various times between 1964 and 1977 from George Raleigh and Mrs. Louisa Parkin.Note sur les autres formats physiques disponibles :Microfilmed transcripts of correspondence between Sir Samuel J.
