Report on the visit of four New Brunswick Acadians to Paris to ask French President Charles de Gaulle for assistance. CBC reporter [Paddy Gregg] does a stand-up report on Canadian reaction to the visit, during which the men were given "the full red-carpet treatment" and received the assistance for which they asked. The Acadians want help to strengthen the French-language culture and school system. De Gaulle promised France would help them by providing French books and films as well as scholarships to the University of Moncton. The four men hold an hour-long news conferences broadcast by a Moncton television station, prompting telephone calls to the station by viewers. Shown is a man, likely a television station official, taking calls from viewers, most of them apparently critical of the Acadians' aspirations. He appears to be in a television control room because a bank of monitors is behind him. One of the Acadians is identified on the monitor screen as Dr. Leon Richard. Next, Richard and an unidentified man, possibly the moderator of the program, talk about the issue in a studio corridor. Richard says the timing of the request was too late, apparently making a reference to French financial aid to francophone countries, because countries such as the Côte-d'Ivoire have received millions of dollars. Also discussed is the international coverage of the visit by news agencies such as Reuters and Canadian Press, and France's sense of guilt over its failure to help the Acadians 200 years ago. [Gregg] then does an on-camera introduction to an interview segment of Gilbert [Finn], President of the Assumption Society. [Finn] talks about the efforts of Acadians over the years to preserve the French language and their culture.~[Gregg] also comments on Acadian efforts to develop a French-language education system. Next is an interview of [Adenard Savoie], Rector of the University of Moncton. He says the society has gone past mere efforts for survival. It now wants to produce poets, historians, writers and other creators. [Gregg] concludes the report by stating that the Acadians were treated well by the French, much better than France has treated some officials of Canada's federal government. Still unclear however is France's motives for helping the Acadians. This is followed by silent stock footage of the New Brunswick community of [St. Pre-d'en-haut]. Shown are winter scenes of orchards, a school with a sign identifying it as EÉcole Hetrière, a church, a branch of La Banque Provinciale du Canada, students leaving a building identified as École Régional Vallée de Memracook, and the University of Moncton.
