Fonds also consists of textual material including correspondence regarding equal opportunity for women in the work force, 1960s-1980s; pension reform, 1972-1976; the Port Churchill Project, 1980-1983; agriculture, 1971-1973; and the representation of the western provinces in the House of Commons, 1980s; Society of Industrial Accountants, 1950s-1970s; and the Canadian Federation of University Women, 1975-1982. Also included are letters to the editor, 1950s-1980s; and copies of stories written for the newspaper column, "Our Side of the Story" by her brother W.B. Harvey, 1955-1962. Year book from the University of Manitoba, 1924; material regarding her career, 1941-1960, and education, 1952-1980. A bound volume of correspondence between Judith Oyen and various friends of Gladys Harvey, written after her death, is also available.
Also included in fonds is photographic material consisting of portraits of Gladys Harvey; snapshots of "Persons Case" play by Marjorie Buckley presented in Québec City; unidentified group photographs, possibly associated with Canadian Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Co.; and composite graduating class photo "Varsity Arts 24".
In addition, fonds includes sound recordings documenting oral history interviews by Anna Feldman of Gladys Harvey about her childhood and early life, her career as a teacher and federal public servant, and her activities promoting equal opportunities for women, 1985.Provenance :Nom(s) additionnel(s) :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Harvey, Gladys, 1903-1985 : Gladys Harvey, teacher and public servant, was born in Dugald, Man. and was educated at the University of Manitoba, 1924, the University of Chicago, 1926, and the Ontario College of Education in Toronto. For seven years Harvey taught at commercial college and high school. During World War II she moved to Ottawa and worked as a Clerk II in the federal government. From 1941 to 1968 she worked in the Bureau of Statistics and later moved to the Comptroller of the Treasury. In 1954 she earned an accounting certificate and became a member of the Registered Industrial Accountants. She was Secretary Treasurer of the Ottawa Chapter for many years.
Gladys Harvey lobbied in business and in government for the principle of equal opportunity for women and was an active member of the Canadian Federation of University Women and the University Women's Club of Ottawa.Information additionnelle :Note générale :Received in 1985 from Miss L.
