Fonds consists of sound recordings of oral history interviews conducted by Dr. Geoff Robinson, of former Canadian and French rum-runners involved in the smuggling of liquor in the Maritime provinces of Canada, on the French Island of St. Pierre (France), and off the U.S. northeastern seaboard during the hayday of Prohibition (1922-1941). The main topics elaborated upon by these men are of a logistical nature, such as rum-running crews, boats, cargoes, financing, organization, communication systems (especially secret codes) and destinations. Much is made of Prohibition law enforcemant in Canada and the United States both on land and on the coastal seas, as well as the occasional reference to hi-jackings of rum-running vessels. These interviews were conducted as research for use in his books on prohibition in Canada.

Fonds consists of textual material including a copy of information from Saint Pierre-Miquelon shipping register, 1926-1938, extracted from the original by Dr. and Mrs. Robinson; and original correspondence, 1981, providing information about the creation of the copy, 4 pages.

Robinson, Geoffrey : Dr. Geoffrey Robinson is a physician and Dorothy Robinson is a medical office assistant from Tyne Valley, P.E.I. They have been researching the history of rum-running during the 1920s and 1930s in the Atlantic region of Canada.
